Interesting Concept

*3). Pick one concept from the reading assignment this week (Ch.1) that you found interesting or useful and and discuss it.

The styles that each picker can choose to have was very interesting. One has to select proper words to speak his/her message to their audience. The vigorous style for instance was based on pathos, because it literally "pulled out all stops."

This type of speech delivery is emotional and eloquent at the same time. This style was often mistrusted and speakers or students of communication were advised not to use this style without elements of other two styles which are plain and middle style.

Style is only 1/5th of elements of a rhetoric and that makes the thought of giving an amazing speech that much harder. Speaker has to have invention, style, arrangement, memory and the great delivery in order to express his ideas to the audience.

I definitively will start developing my own unique style when making presentations/speeches in front of an audience. It is a great way to be remembered and stand out from the crowd.

  1. Hi Siral,
I completely agree, word choice plays a huge role in the delivery of a message. In some cases it can change the effectiveness of the message to the audience. This is also the truth with style.

The five cannons of rhetoric truly are the backbone to successfully deliver a message to an audience. They are all just as important and critical.

I believe a great delivery is such a under estimated key part. Even if you have a great, interesting message to convey, with out a great delivery that message may never reach the audience. Many people think as long as they memorize their speech and have a good message it will be a success. This is definitely not the case.

    Good posts! Keep it up!

  2. The pathos style of pulling out all the stops is perhaps one of my favorites. Earlier in the week when we were asked to pick a speaker who exemplified one of those qualities i noticed that some of my favorite speakers use a pathos style of delivery. I find that it is appealing mostly because it arouses emotion and really resonates with people. I also agree with the post by ImaginePeace that even with a good and important message, people will not listen unless the delivery gets nailed. That is why so many politicians with the best of messages and ideas often get overlooked because their delivery is not engaging and - boring.
